The first-generation Daihatsu Charade, introduced in 1977, combined a front-mounted, horizontally-oriented 1.0L 3-cylinder CB engine with a slightly taller two-box hatchback body. Despite its compact size, it featured excellent packaging, offering a spacious interior and a rational drive layout, presenting a new direction for small cars.
Although the 3-cylinder engine was known for its vibration characteristics and was typically used in agricultural diesel engines, it was adopted in the Charade as the optimal compact gasoline engine. To address the vibration issue, a balance shaft was added, driven parallel to the crankshaft, which helped suppress the vibrations.

The first-generation G10 Charade won the Japan Car of the Year award in its debut year, making it the first and only car from Daihatsu to ever achieve this. It set a new standard for basic cars.

The Charade was also sold overseas, and in 1979, at the request of local dealers, the DRS Works participated in rallies. Over the next three years, while not in the high-powered upper classes, it established a strong presence in the small engine classes.

This particular car is one of the G10 Charades that competed in rallies.
Like the 1979 winning car, it was requested by a local dealer to participate, so the base model is left-hand drive.
It participated in the 1981 Monte Carlo Rally, winning in the Group 2 small engine class.
The rear window still retains the decal that was placed as a victory commemoration when the car returned to Japan.

Currently, the engine and transmission are not installed, and the related documents are not available. However, this is a rare opportunity to own a piece of history from a time when Japan shone brightly in world rallying.
