1969 LOTUS ELAN S3 FHC “Black Badge”

  • An example that was restored meticulously
  • A “fixed-head” coupe
  • A black badge model in memory of Jim Clark

The Lotus Elan (Type 26) debuted as the successor to the Lotus Elite in 1962. Although affordable, designed by the brilliant race car engineer Colin Chapman, this light weight two seat sports car, pushed the status of what was a small backyard builder at that time up to a sports car maker.

After Series 1 (S1) in 1962, the Elan continued to evolve through the years from S2 up till S4 in 1962. It is still considered to this day to be one of the exemplar of sports cars and has hard core fans around the world.

This example is a Series 3(S3) fixed coupe (FHC) the main vehicle used in Lotus’s race activities. The emblem of this example is colored black (the Black Badge) at the factory to show respect to the legendary driver Jim Clark (He had won races in F1 and the Indy 500) who died in a crash during a F2 race.

The example had been preserved inside a garage by an owner in Japan for 35 years which the current owner purchased and restored to a perfect condition.

This Elan retains the shine of a brand new car. We hope you become the owner of this glistening piece.
